Popping in at the Park Inn

Walking into the Park Inn by Radisson Blu was a highlight for me. Knowing that the hotel is eco-friendly and considers the environment was something to be proud of. We were received by the hotel manager, Thatum, who welcomed us with open arms. Her flare for customer service was evident as she made us feel like her number one priority - providing us with sterling service throughout our stay.

The Park Inn by Radisson Blu hotels have been recognised as green hotels by a (third party) eco-label. The eco-labels highlight the drive to minimise the environmental footprint. The hotels take action to reduce energy and water consumption and minimise waste generation. Eco-label is the symbol that recognises and certifies hotels that show management that is sustainable, respectful of the environment, and socially responsible towards the community, as well as with the tourist destination where their activity is developed.

Once our check-in was completed, we were informed of the popcorn available for the duration of our stay - this was an exciting start to our Park Inn experience as popcorn is one of my all-time favourite treats, and lots of guests seemed to agree. We received our access cards to our room and our adventure began.

Due to the eco-label, our access cards controlled most electrical operations in the room - the lights in the bathroom, as well as the air-conditioning in the room. We arrived to a plate of fresh fruit, nuts and sweet treats in our suite. Our balcony room was exposed to the view of the Cape Town Newlands' hustle and bustle. Other facilities available to us included use of the gym and steam room, swimming pool and complimentary WiFi throughout the hotel.

As the sun set upon Newlands, we started our dining experience awaiting us at the Live Inn restaurant where live entertainment in the form of The Rumours band would play into the evening. For starters, my guest ordered the courgette fritters and I had the calamari with a very spicy harissa sauce - a fresh, light start to evening. For our main course, my choice was the sirloin (complete with onion rings and mushroom sauce) and my guest had the hulk burger. It had everything on it – bacon, avo, cheese, the works – yup, I know what you are thinking, but it’s not that big… To top the evening off we ended with the chocolate fudge pie – a pie pastry crust with rich chocolate pudding/mousse texture filling. The Rumours band set the atmosphere in the restaurant as guests came for supper and drinks. The energy was tangible with guests shimmying and tapping their feet while relishing their meals.

Just before going back to our hotel room we decided that an early breakfast in bed sounded like a good idea. We placed our orders at reception where the delightful Thatum assisted us. Not to our surprise, she delivered perfect hospitality and managed to end our stay at the Park Inn with a delicious breakfast. Room service delivered our breakfast spread while we relaxed and watched a movie, with fresh air and rays of sun entering through the open balcony door and the birds sang cheerfully outside. What more would you want out of your early morning rise?
