Daily Maverick shuts down comments... for now
Until they can moderate them more effectively (a full-time job on its own for many overseas publications), you'll no longer see lengthy responses from all and sundry to Daily Maverick articles.
Reaction on social media has been more muted than when other publications announced they'd no longer be allowing free reign of their comments section, mainly as so many have already had to make this move:
Daily Maverick closes comments, & advises its trolls to emigrate to Twitter & Facebook. https://t.co/DOO0l4M7Ii

I'll say it again: Stupidity is its own reward. Damn trolls. "Daily Maverick closes comments". https://t.co/1sc5O6Movw

As always, it's 'the trolls' that get the blame for the move.
Memeburn comments that vindictive commenters are: "tarnishing a brand which it has 'worked painstakingly hard to build' over the past six years."
"It may be your 'right' to say what you want. But it's our right not to want to host it," the piece concludes.
