Jean van Rooyen
I would like to apply for a position as a candidate attorney for 2014. I graduated with a LLB at the University of Stellenbosch and I completed the program at the LEAD Practical Legal Training School in June 2013. I wrote all four Attorney Admission Exams in August 2013 awaiting my results. I am a hard working and responsible person, who can function well under pressure. I have strong leadership qualities but know the importance of working in a team.

Show profile Hide profileI have completed the School for Practical Legal Training-program in June 2013. I wrote all four Attorney's Admission Exams in August 2013 (awaiting my results). I graduated with a LLB at the University of Stellenbosch (2009-2012), where I passed all my subjects every year within the four-year period. I matriculated in 2008 at the Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool Pretoria where I achieved five distinctions during the National Matriculation Examination.
During my vacation in April and June of 2011, I accompanied Advocate DeWet Keet, a Junior Advocate of the Pretoria Bar Association, to court for several weeks and assisted him in his research. In 2011, I also volunteered at the University of Stellenbosch's Legal Aid Clinic where I was involved in the Financial Literacy Program. This interactive community initiative was aimed at informing local communities of the National Credit Act 34 of 2005, debt counselling and elementary financial planning skills. These activities helped to further develop my interpersonal and communication skills.
I am interested in both family law and labour law, and find these subjects stimulating and interesting. These subjects also formed part of my final year syllabus at an advanced level, along with criminal law, which I am also fascinated with. I would thus like to pursue a career in one of these fields.
The School for Practical Legal Training also gave me insights into the workings and procedures of the Road Accident Fund as well as Wills and Estates, which broadened my knowledge and further sparked my interests regarding these fields. I would thus like to gain experience in these areas too.
I have obtained useful drafting skills during my time at both the University of Stellenbosch and the School for Practical Legal Training. I have also obtained a general knowledge of important law procedures and the importance of the application of law in practice.
Throughout my school and university years, I participated in various sports and cultural activities such as modern dancing, netball, hockey and public speaking, while maintaining a balanced lifestyle. I have a strong personality and good leadership qualities, but I also know the importance of working together as a team to reach mutual goals. I am a responsible, reliable person that will always do my best no matter the task at hand. My strengths lie in time-management, organization and diligent work making me an excellent candidate for articles at your firm and an asset to any team.
I am currently residing in Rondebosch and have a drivers licence (Code B) and my own transportation. Any further documentation will be available on request immediately.
