Income from food and beverage up 6% y/y in November
Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income generated by the food and beverage industry increased 6% in November 2015 compared with November 2014, Statistics South Africa said on Monday.
The highest annual growth rates were recorded for other income (10.9%) and bar sales (8.6%), it said.
Positive annual growth rates were recorded for restaurants and coffee shops (8.7% and contributing 3.9 percentage points) and takeaway and fast-food outlets (5.7% and contributing 2.1 percentage points).
Total income for the food and beverage industry increased 7.1% in the three months ended November 2015 compared with the same period in 2014.
Positive contributors to this increase were: restaurants and coffee shops (9.2% and contributing 4.1 percentage points); and takeaway and fast-food outlets (8.5% and contributing 3.2 percentage points).
