The launch of MMA West Africa reflects the demand for a localised focus to grow a sustainable market within the region and help to protect consumers.

Ahead of the launch, the MMA has established a Contact Group headed by Dayo Elegbe, managing director at Sponge Nigeria and Elo Umeh, managing director at Terragon.

The launch of the council is fully supported by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), The National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Consumer Protection Council and Etisalat Nigeria.

To coincide with the launch, the MMA is supporting two mobile marketing events for the region, the Mobile Marketing Summit and the CEO, CMO and DG Summit.

"We are very excited about the impending West Africa Local Council launch and mobile marketing summits," said Umeh, "Having the endorsement of the three leading government bodies in Nigeria reflects the growing importance of mobile marketing in West Africa, which is becoming one of the most popular forms of consumer engagement. Brands and companies across the region are undertaking mobile campaigns to reach consumers and we are looking forward to helping them find new ideas, develop strategies and follow best practice."

"The launch of MMA West Africa will allow companies involved in the mobile marketing ecosystem to profit from access to important information, encouraging brands and marketers to learn best practise when using mobile and teach them how to integrate it into the marketing mix to engage with their target audience in an interactive and compelling way," said Elegbe, "The Mobile Marketing and CMO, CEO and Director General Summits will be a good starting point for the education of thought leaders throughout West Africa regarding the best practices in mobile marketing."
