SAMIF moves ahead
The South African Meetings Industry Federation (SAMIF), representative of associations in the South African meetings, incentives, conference and exhibition industries, and formed in September 2004, is moving ahead in its efforts to streamline the South African business tourism industry, which currently comprises approximately 70% of the local tourism industry.
SAMIF members have agreed to align themselves with their international counterparts thereby getting South Africa on international agendas. The Federation is investigating the possibility of allocating TOMSA levies to a 'Bidding Fund' to be used towards international bids for new local events and which will provide bidding packs, i.e. standardised information on South African venues, capacities, locations etc.
The Federation, is closely aligned with South African Tourism's National Convention Bureau (NCB) and is chaired by Rick Taylor. Taylor is CEO of South African Tourism's NCB.
