Direct flight from Wonderboom to Cape Town

PRETORIA: The first commercial flight from Wonderboom airport has taken to the sky en route to Cape Town.

Wonderboom airport, initially opened in 1937, is situated about 15km north of Pretoria. The airport first opened its doors to commercial planes in the early 1990's and again in 2010 but that only lasted three months.

However, this time around management is confident that the project will be a success. The City of Tshwane hopes that reopening the airport for commercial use will boost local tourism. This as the direct route offers passengers from Tshwane, Limpopo and North West provinces the convenience of shorter travel times, without the need to commute to airports like OR Tambo, especially during peak-hour traffic.

SA Airlink will operate the flights. The flights will depart from Wonderboom for Cape Town at 6.45am in the morning with a second morning flight at 9.45am, then in the afternoon departing Wonderboom at 5.45pm.

Flights from Cape Town to Wonderboom depart at 6.45am with afternoon flights at 3pm and 5.30pm. Airlink will operate the three times a day return air service between the two cities.
