EBH is one of Durban's oldest ship repair companies and according to Ports & Shipping Maritime News it started in the early 1880s when Scotsman Jame Brown and three of his nephews set up the engineering business at the port.
It later merged with Gilbert Hamer & Company and then in 1980 the merged companies were bought by Elgin Engineering.
DCD Dorbyl has been operating in South Africa since its formation in 1946. It was originally known as Dorbyl Shipbuilders and later became Dorbyl Marine. It was responsible for building the John Ross tug (now renamed Smit Amandla) for Safmarine.
This tug has been used in many dramatic sea rescues.
