RSR dismisses nepotism allegations
PRETORIA: The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) has described the allegations of nepotism and irregular appointment of certain staff by their chief executive officer Nkululeko Poya as factually incorrect and without substance.
In dismissing the allegations published in The Star on Monday, RSR acting communications manager, Babalwa Mpendu said they have provided the newspaper with detailed responses to refute all the allegations, but they note with concern the selective and bias reporting by The Star.
"We condemn as spurious, allegations levelled at the CEO of the RSR, Nkululeko Poya which also border on discrediting his record of adhering to the organisation's policies and processes as well as the Public Finance and Management Act (PFMA), since taking over the reigns," said Mpendu in a statement.
According to Mpendu, RSR has a Recruitment and Selection Policy which is fair, competitive and consistently applied in all the appointments that it makes.
Appointment of staff at the RSR falls within the delegated authority of the relevant general managers and all head hunting appointments that occurred at the RSR occurred after due processes were followed in accordance with the RSR's Recruitment and Selection Policy.
"In due course the RSR Board will pronounce on some of these matters. We, therefore strongly deny any insinuation that the CEO of the RSR has ever interfered with Human Resource processes," said Mpendu.
