The business umbrella body voiced disappointment that Cabinet has approved the labour amendment bills without conducting a regulatory impact assessment or waiting for the final report from the National Economic and Labour Council (Nedlac).
Busa said it welcomed the confirmation that government will retain section 198 of the Labour Relations Act (LRA) Amendment Bill, regulating labour brokers. However, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) is calling for a ban on labour brokers. Business Report quotes from a short statement issued by Cosatu and the ANC, saying they held a fruitful and honest bilateral meeting. "A follow up meeting will be held in the coming weeks to continue with the discussions as both parties are fully cognisant of the urgency of the matters. Papers presented at the meeting and discussions that ensued will not be made public." the statement said.
