Constitutional Court judge appointed

PRETORIA: President Jacob Zuma has, in terms of section 174(4) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, has appointed Advocate Mbuyiseli Russel Madlanga SC as a judge of the Constitutional Court with effect from 1 August 2013.

According to the Presidency, the president made the decision after consulting with the Chief Justice of the Republic and the leaders of political parties represented in the National Assembly.

"I congratulate Advocate Madlanga SC on this appointment and wish him all the best in this new role of promoting constitutional justice in our country.

"We also acknowledge and thank all the highly capably candidates who were shortlisted for this position," said President Zuma.
