Both productions will be presented by Artscape’s Audience Development and Education Department and are an extension of the theatre’s commitment to educating young audiences. Grade 10 and 12 Afrikaans learners will get a chance to see their set work books.

Fiela’s se Kind, crowned in 1999 as the Afrikaans book of the century in 1999, tells the story of Benjamin Komoetie, a white boy who grows up with a coloured family. When Benjamin is taken away from them, he begins a journey to find himself, while Fiela fights to get her child back. It is one from Wednesday 20 to Saturday 23 April 2016.

Krismis van Map Jacobs, on from Friday 6 to Saturday 21 May, wrestles with social issues such as unemployment and poverty, through the story of gangster Map Jacobs, who has just been released on parole after seven years in prison. While his family and friends wonder if he has changed his ways, there are many other issues at play. Set after the forced removals of many coloured families to the Cape Flats, the play sheds light on the lifestyles of these displaced communities and their struggle for a better life.

Tickets for both productions cost R40 per person via Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on +27 (0)21 421 7695.
