Fuel strike over
The strike among workers in the fuel industry is over after Nerina Khan of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration intervened in the strike action, reports Times Live.
Solidarity, one of the unions involved in the strike said that a favourable wage agreement of 8,5% across the board and 10% for the lowest-paid workers had been reached.
Times Live says that the CCMA intervened in terms of Section 150 of the Labour Relations Act. Ending the strike will mean that petrol supplies, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng will return to normal.
IOL reports that the Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Industries, the General Industries Union of South Africa and Solidarity had demanded wage increases of 11% and a 40-hour working week.
