Blankets for the elderly
Through her work of providing pensioners at Klein Helderkruin retirement village in Roodepoort with free refreshments on Tuesday mornings, Istelle Hutchinson, founder and co-owner of Altefyn, the home industry store in Westgate, discovered that the residents sleep under newspapers to keep warm. Touched by their plight, the Westgate shopping centre has begun a clothing and blanket drive for the home.
Rob Thomas (marketing manager at Westgate), Istelle Hutchinson (founder of Altefyn) and Agnes Malesa (marketing assistant at Westgate) with the first of the blankets to be donated to the Klein Helderkruin retirement village.
Rob Thomas, marketing manager at Westgate recently made the first donation of blankets and clothing to Hutchinson. "Apart from making this donation, we are also appealing to Westgate's shoppers to assist by donating blankets and warm clothes, which we can pass onto to ensure that these elderly residents can stay warm during these last cold winter spells."
Shoppers can bring these donations to the centre management offices or contact Agnes Malesa, marketing assistant at Westgate during office hours on +27 (0) 11 768 0616.
