Morwe to act as Transnet Freight chief

Transport business Transnet on Tuesday, 18 November 2009, announced that Tau Morwe, the Chief Executive of Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), had agreed to act as CE of Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) pending the finalisation of the current disciplinary process in relation to the suspended CE of TFR, Siyabonga Gama.

TFR has operated without a full-time CE since September 2009, noted Acting Group CE, Chris Wells.

"This situation is not ideal for TFR and its stakeholders, particularly the customers.

"Therefore, given the need to focus on our customers' needs and to provide effective leadership, it has become necessary to appoint an interim CE to oversee the day-to-day responsibility of this important division," he said.

In addition, Wells also announced the appointment of Karl Socikwa, the Group Executive: Commercial, to act as interim head for TPT.

His knowledge and understanding within Transnet will allow for a smooth transition. He brings a wealth of commercial experience and energy, said Wells.
