In addition, "[t]he likelihood of garments being manufactured according to the customer's [...] requirements is actually very low." This accounts for variations in same-size garments across various styles and contributes to unnecessary sample rework, slow quality assurance (QA) and long lead times.
While product life cycle management (PLM) systems have been widely used by overseas retailers for years, South Africa is lagging behind in this area. Now, iSync's PLM can be used to handle the sourcing of garments for retailers, via direct sourcing, third-party sourcing or local manufacturing ('fast fashion'). Garment costing, tech-packs and QA specifications are unfortunately "missing in South African fashion retail." Without a proper brief or tech-pack, the suppliers of local, direct sourcing or third-party garments "can't [...] get it right." The iSync PLM system is "based on the best practices of SA's top apparel manufacturing and sourcing businesses, making the sourcing process accurate and efficient," the company's statement says.
