NIHEAS to be an annual event

The 2010 Nigerian Hospitality Excellence Awards and Seminar (NIHEAS), held late last month, was an inaugural ceremony that was held to encourage service excellence in the hospitality industry. The maiden edition was hosted by Finale Hotels Services in conjunction with Focal Point and endorsed by the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation - NTDC.

NIHEAS, held at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers Ikeja, will be an annual event for the hospitality and tourism industry. This year's event was a one-day seminar and awards ceremony held under the theme of Globalisation, challenges of hospitality and tourism industry in Nigeria.

The following topics were discussed:

Hospitality and tourism potentials in Nigeria

Global best practices in hospitality and tourism industry

Systematic accounting and control techniques in hotel and catering management

Safety and dynamics of security in the hospitality industry

Investing in the hospitality business, challenges and way forward

Hospitality marketing branding and public relations

The presentations were delivered by Pierre -Alain Bignalet - Sofitel The Moorehouse Ikoyi, Mark Loxley - Southern Sun Ikoyi Hotel Lagos and Dr Olusola Aina - Human Capital Management Consultants, chairman Finale Hotel Services.

This was followed with the NIHEAS Award 2010 ceremony. Categories included Hotels / Motels and Guest Houses, Fast Food and Restaurant Outlets, Tour Operators and Airline Operators, Land ways Transport operators and Courier Service Operators.

The Southern Sun Ikoyi Hotel Lagos Nigeria won the award for Nigeria's Most Oustanding Hotel Facility of the Year 2010.
