This Day expressed "grave reservations" over the bidding process after fashion retailer Edcon won the bid to buy CNA for R141m, and spokesman John Matisonn said that the company was taking legal advice.
In a more recent announcement however, This Day said that they wished Edcon well with their purchase and will not pursue the CNA deal "as a legal challenge". They said that it would not be in the interests of CNA, its suppliers or its customers should there be a protracted legal dispute.
The group will instead be focussing on plans to launch a South African version of the 7-year old Nigerian newspaper, This Day. The South African version, also to be called 'This Day', will be launched early next year as a weekly publication with Matisonn as Editorial Director.
