Sunter vs Malema in Rumble in the Urban Jungle

EFF MP, Julius Malema, will take on one of the best informed South Africans, Clem Sunter, in a two-round debate at the Cape Sun on the evening of 12 February. The clash has been organised by the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

"Both these men have very strong views on the future of South Africa and its faltering economy and it should be interesting and exciting to see them exchange blows," said Janine Myburgh, president of the Chamber.

"We are looking for a fair exchange of debating punches with as little ducking and diving as possible," she said. The Chamber has organised the 'bout' because it is essential for business to come to terms with the different scenarios for the future and how they could affect both business opportunities and job creation.

Lines become confused

Myburgh said that too often the lines in the political debate became confused as politicians sought to gain short-term advantages and audience support rather than a deeper look at the long-term consequences of policies.

"Malema represents a different approach to our challenges and it is important to understand his thinking and what he is trying to achieve. Sunter, on the other hand, represents a more established view but he has a vast knowledge of the economy and our problem industry, mining, and should mount an excellent defence," Myburgh said..

"We have billed this as the 'Rumble in the Urban Jungle' but we are looking for information and understanding rather than physical conflict. The blows we want to see are the blows of telling arguments and counter punches of different views. Ideally we would like to see both combatants leave the ring with a clearer understanding of the opposing forces."

The two-round clash will be followed with a question and answer session. The Chamber would like the audience to end the evening better informed and with an improved appreciation of the forces at work in our economy in order to equip business to make better decisions about future projects and investments.
