Congratulations, Olympian Elroy!
Gelant epitomises what it means to be an NWU eagle. He has shown bravery through injury setbacks, determination on the track and an undiluted passion for doing what he loves to the very best of his abilities.
“I am really looking forward to being part of the South Africa Olympic team again and to represent our country on the highest level. It is a dream that has come true. Every child that participates in athletics strives to one day go to the Olympic Games. At the last Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro I competed in the 5,000m event, therefore I decided to focus on the marathon, which is 42km. I’m also excited to be able to compete against some of the biggest names in the sport,” says Gelant.
“My preparations are running smoothly, and I am going to give everything to win a medal for my country. I’m not going to go to Japan to explore Tokyo, I am going there to win a medal. I would also like to thank the NWU for all the support that they gave me as an employee through many years. They helped to lay the foundation of my success.”
Good luck, Elroy! We know you will represent the NWU and South Africa well. The NWU family is behind you all the way.
