The quarter of a millionth unit, a 1.8 Utility SPORT, marks a 17 year production period of one of South Africa's most loved light commercial vehicles. Now in its third generation, the Chevrolet Utility is built with the South African customer in mind, a reliable vehicle for work and leisure.

"We are proud of the fact that this is a South African built bakkie. Our Struandale plant is efficiently geared up for light commercial vehicle manufacturing and we pride ourselves in building quality vehicles for our customers," said Ian Nicholls, President and Managing Director of General Motors Sub-Saharan Africa Operations.

Nicholls further said the Struandale plant was recently awarded a higher manufacturing quality status by General Motors Company after an international audited was conducted.

"This re-enforces the future of manufacturing at the facility and is a huge positive if the company is to be awarded any contracts to build new model vehicles going forward. It in essence means that the manufacturing standard for Struandale has improved based on the globally recognised manufacturing quality standards."

The Chevrolet Utility has been a market leader for more than ten years and has conquered many quality awards during this time.

Recently two new Special Edition derivatives of the Chevrolet Utility was launched to the market, the UteSurf and the UteWorking. The former is designed to have special appeal for South Africa's fun-loving individuals. It is fitted with a tubular stainless steel sport bar and a roof rack/spoiler combination which makes it simpler and safer to carry lifestyle accessories, while the specialised nature of the UteWorking is addressed with a cluster of common-sense add-ons, which underpin the Utility's ability to add value to businesses large and small.

Another proud aspect of the Chevrolet Utility is the Chevrolet UTE FORCE, the social arm of the bakkie that builds communities through soccer development and other sustainable initiatives.
