Weigh-Less is approved by the DOH as an "endorsement entity"

Weigh-Less, one of Southern Africa's leaders in health and weight management, announced last week that after 36 years of prudence, conservatism and leadership in the area of self management training in sustainable sensible dietary lifestyles, the company has been approved by the Department of Health (DOH) as an 'endorsement entity'.

The request for approval to act as an 'endorsement entity' in terms of the regulations relating to the labelling and advertising of foodstuff (R146 of March 2010) was originally made when the draft of the labelling regulations was first presented.

Now, after a close evaluation of evidence submitted by Weigh-Less in addition to lengthy assessments, Weigh-Less was informed that "the Department was of the opinion that sufficient evidence was provided to support the approval of Weigh-Less to act as an endorsement entity in terms of the Regulation 13 (a) (ii) and that the logo's of the Foundation can therefore be included on the labels and advertisements of foodstuffs." A proud moment

Mary Holroyd founder and chairman of Weigh-Less says, "We believe that we are the first weight management company to be approved as an 'endorsement entity' by the South African DOH! This is indeed Weigh-Less' proudest moment!"

The DOH's approval of the 'endorsement entity' is considered to be valid until such time as the Phase 2 of the Food Labelling and Advertising Regulations have been finalised. However, according to Holroyd, there has been no time frame provided as to when exactly Phase 2 will take place.

The Weigh-Less Weight Management Programme is based on scientific formulae that can be tailored to individual needs, taking cognisance of lifestyle, culture and social behaviour, as well as food preferences. Holroyd says, "We encourage a change in lifestyle and provide the support required to make the change. We incorporate important nutritional information on the importance of complex carbohydrates, low-fat high-quality proteins and dairy as well as the need for healthy fats from nuts, seeds, and oils. Weigh-Less is about making healthy food choices and is not a diet!"
