This year, Wine Cellar Fine Wine Merchants & Cellarers has once again identified SA's hottest young winemaking talent breaking the rules and pushing the limits at the annual "Young Guns's" event.

Tru-Cape held a heritage orchard open day at the Oak Valley Estate in Grabouw. On 4 February 2017, Tru-Cape showcased ancient apple and pear varieties to members of the public for guided walkabouts.

To commemorate the 225-year-old legacy of the winery's founder, Phillipus Wolvaart; Nederburg Wines held a special vine planting event earlier this month. Guided by Nederburg's viticulturist, Bennie Liebenberg and farm manager, Bertie Faure, guests braved the intense Paarl summer heat and got their hands dirty and helped plant the cultivar, Chambourcin, on a block that's been resting for three years to improve the decomposed granite soil. In March 2016, Beauty Without Cruelty called for the end of hen suffering by committing to a petition for a cage-free policy to be adopted by Mcdonalds SA. United Front 4 Animals (UFA), OWL, South African Faith Communities' Environment Institute (SAFCEI) and Animal Voice, the official South African representative of Compassion in World Farming, added their voices to the campaign. The Mcdonalds franchises based in the US and Canada have already begun to phase out battery-cage use in their supply chain enterprises which have been beneficial to the hens that produce eggs for their consumers. Mcdonalds SA is yet to adopt this policy....

Themed 'A Cut Above', the Unilever Food Solutions Chef of the Year mystery basket national finals held on 8 September in Durban, saw participants in the junior and senior categories create recipes using Unilever Food Solutions products for a starter, main and dessert course.

The promotion of kiwi fruit grown in Europe has made it possible for South Africa to participate in joint trade relations with Greece and vice versa.
