Jane Goodall on African Voices

Jane Goodall, environmentalist and conservationist, will feature on this week's edition of CNN International's African Voices. At 75 years old, Goodall will speak of her travels around the world to promote conservation, and educate about climate change.

Jane Goodall left her home in London for the wilds of Africa five decades ago, driven by the love of and the fascination for animals. Her enthusiasm to study primates led to the discovery that chimpanzees have abilities and personalities similar to humans.

Her work moved from chimpanzees to wider conservation with the establishment of the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977. In 2002, the United Nations named Goodall a messenger of peace.

Her global Roots and Shoots movement, which started in Tanzania and has grown to 9,000 groups across 100 countries, has moved her work from the jungle to the classroom and much of that effort has been focused on educating the next generation. She speaks about the importance of children, empowering young people, helping them to understand the problems and enabling them to take action.
