Basic Education, Lifebuoy reach milestone in hygiene and sanitation programme
Lifebuoy and the Department of Basic Education celebrated a milestone in its national schools hygiene and sanitation programme at the St. Camillus Primary School in Hammanskraal on Global Handwashing Day (GHD). Since its inception, earlier this year, the programme has educated 700,000 children on the importance of handwashing with soap.
The programme forms part of Unilever's Sustainable Living Plan; Lifebuoy aims to help one billion people around the world improve their handwashing habits by 2020. The programme is part of a five-year partnership between Unilever and the Department of Basic Education and is being implemented by teachers in 15,000 South African schools, teaching grade one learners lessons on handwashing for hygiene from Lifebuoy, toilet hygiene habits from Domestos, and oral hygiene from Mentadent P.
