Altech buys digital receiver company

Altech has bought SetOne, a German company that manufactures digital receivers or set-top boxes that are widely used in Europe according to Business Day.

The deal will allow Altech Multimedia to entrench its relationship with partners abroad according to Craig Venter, chief executive of the company. UEC, an Altech subsidiary, makes the digital receivers for MultiChoice and set-top boxes that will be required to view SABC channels when South Africa converts to digital terrestrial broadcasting in the next year or so.

Venter says SetOne is especially strong in managing a range of outsourced manufacturing partners for the European retail and free-to-air satellite and terrestrial broadcast markets.
