Introduction to interior decorating short course

Interior decorating is the decorative and functional planning of the interior of a home and can extend to diverse areas such as restaurants, shops and offices. The interior decorator looks at the final finishes of the interior of a structure including space, colour, personal preferences and budget.

In this 18-week course, you will learn the basics of interior decorating. You will be taught the theory of decorating and be introduced to the design process and presentation tools required to present a decorating project successfully.

The first part of the course will cover:

- How to work with colour;
- The psychology of colour;
- Interior decorating principles;
- The history of interior styles;
- Materials and finishes including eco-friendly materials;
- Fabrics and window treatments and;
- The use of lighting in interior spaces.

Secondly, you will learn how to decorate spaces using contemporary approaches and styles by creating mood boards, floor plans and presentations.

All classes are presented experienced interior decorators and designers and a hands-on practical approach is used. Each student receives a starter pack to get you going.
