The tournament, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and MOT SA, aims to not only promote tennis in South Africa but will also be used as a vehicle in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

It will feature a host of other internationally-celebrated tennis stars such as Romanian tennis star and grand slam winner Simona Halep and South African tennis sensation Khololwam Montsi who will participate in the mixed doubles segment. Other tennis players participating in the tournament will be announced over the next two weeks.

Hingis said she looks forward to participating in the Africa Cares Tennis Challenge “to help not only raise awareness on gender-based violence but help encourage a change in violent behaviour”.

The events will be open to vaccinated people only. Tickets will go on sale on the Ticketpro ticketing platform from 9am tomorrow and will only be limited to 2,000 premium hospitality tickets per day in adherence to Covid-19 regulations.
