Thabang Chiloane to head Nedbank public affairs

Thabang Chiloane has been appointed divisional executive of public affairs, the Nedbank Group announced this morning, Wednesday, 15 June 2011. He was previously head of group government relations at banking group Absa and, prior to that, headed up group communications at life assurance giant Sanlam.

Chiloane will fulfil the critical role of managing stakeholder relationships, specifically in the public sector space.

Between 2006 and 2008, Chiloane was in charge of communications for the deputy president of South Africa. Earlier in his career, he headed up communications for the Kwazulu-Natal Provincial Government, the National Department of Housing and the Kwazulu-Natal Department of Transport. He also spent two years as director, news service at the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).

A graduate of the Argus School of Journalism, Chiloane also has a bachelor of communications degree from the Charles Sturt University in Australia and is currently completing a master of business administration degree through the Regenesys Business School in Johannesburg.

His journalism experience includes stints with the Pretoria News and the SABC, where he won African Journalist of the Year award in 1999.
