Local first-time director wins international television award

Cape Town-based newcomer Elisabeth Tandy has won the First Place, Gold Camera Award, at the International Film and Video Festival, California, for her public service announcement "The Drop".

"The Drop" with a message to "make every drop of water count" and shot on location at Silvermine Reserve is the first commercial ever directed by Elisabeth. She worked on the project for the MultiChoice VUKA! Awards 2001 with production company One Step Beyond and Director of Photography Michael Brierley.

Elisabeth, who matriculated in 1996 and completed a two-year degree in directing at City Varsity Film & Television School in Cape Town, won Best Overall PSA and Best Newcomer Director at the VUKA! Awards 2001 last year.

The office of the 35th annual International Film and Video Festival received 1 500 entries from 33 countries. The Awards Banquet will take place on 7 June.
