Forget industry awards: it's far more fun to compete for a good cause. To satisfy your competitive spirit while doing something meaningful, enter a team in the Papersmith & Son annual darts contest.
The popular contest is now in its third year. The highlight of the month-long tournament is that it gives the winning team the opportunity to choose a charity to receive a cash donation.
Last year's winners, Ince Ltd, chose to give a total of R25 000 to the Nkosi Johnson Aids Foundation. The amount was made up of two donations: R16 000 raised from the tournament and R9 000 from Ince Ltd.
In addition, the top three teams each receive a cash prize and the winning team also takes home a floating trophy. Fun spot prizes are also awarded throughout the games.
"The event is also a great opportunity to socialise with the industry," says Jo Haden-Smith, managing director of Papersmith & Son, the creative merchant.
According to Haden-Smith about 40 teams participated last year and they expect this number to grow considerably this year.
You need a team of five to enter and registration is R500. And if you don't have enough players, Papersmith & Son will team you up with other players to form a side.
The competition kicks off at the Flights Bar in Ferndale in early May.
