Oasys supplies the winners' podium

This year's Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Motocross World Championships were held at the Alkmaar Circuit in Nelspruit, in late July. Oasys Events has enjoyed a long association with the FIM, from its previous base at Sun City in 2004, through to its new venue. Since this was the first year Alkmaar Circuit has hosted this international event, much of the infrastructure was purpose-built.
Oasys supplies the winners' podium

Says Oasys Events Chief Operations Officer Richard Mons: "We were responsible for four hospitality marquees, the pit and paddock infrastructure, the infrastructure to meet the requirements set by the international organisers (FIM) for their offices, and the media and press centre. The hospitality marquees were fully furnished and fitted with wooden floors and carpeting. In addition we provided two marquees, for the pits and paddocks to store the motorbikes and the related equipment. These also provided the various mechanics with a space to work on their bikes.

"Our electrical business unit Oasys Electrical supplied the power supply to all these various marquees and the pit boxes. In addition we also provided the marquees used for technical inspections, medical and emergency care, and also for race direction. The Oasys Electrical team constantly monitored the generators located onsite, refuelling and maintaining these units on a daily basis. "

This year Oasys Events provided an additional hospitality marquee. This was placed close to the pits and paddocks to accommodate the riders, officials, and VIP guests invited by the riders, as per the international organiser's request. Says Mons: "We provided a glass cassette marquee with flooring, air-conditioning, electrical outlets and furniture, providing the riders and their guests with the very best position and surroundings to enhance their enjoyment of the race. This also included a stand-alone marquee for the kitchen and storage space to accommodate the imported food and supplies. This facility was geared towards the international chefs who accompany the top riders, who carefully avoid eating any exotic or potentially tainted food before an important event! Oasys Events also supplied the various flagpoles located around the track."

The various offices used by FIM during the race, were furnished by Mons and his team, providing draping, furniture, carpets and electrical outlets to the high international standards expected by those attending. The media and press centre was located in a glass-fronted marquee including flooring, carpets, conference furniture and electrical and staging equipment for the interview area.

Says Oasys Audio Visual Chief Operating Officer Craig Browning: "This facility accommodated both local and international media and operated for 18 hours of the day. We included access to telephone lines provided by Telkom and internet connectivity sponsored by Vodacom. The FIM media officers had their own separate marquee, which they utilised as their press office, in addition to the comprehensive media centre we supplied. 100 televisions and LCD screens were supplied for both the media centre and hospitality marquees. These provided all 20 000 spectators with access to all the action on the circuit."

This international event has put South Africa and Nelspruit firmly on the international motocross calendar.
