On the Dot - Pamphlets Division - 67 minutes

In honour of Madiba's 67 years of service as a politician, freedom fighter and humanitarian, the Pamphlet Division at On the Dot joined millions of South Africans in devoting 67 minutes of selfless community service.
The Johannesburg team paid it forward by visiting the Jafta old age home in the South of Johannesburg.

We handed out goodie bags as well as copies of our magazines to the 40 appreciative residents.

The appreciation however was not only for the small gift but the opportunity for a chat - we enjoyed listening to and sharing stories with the residents while snacking on tea time delights.

Soloist Sam B entertained us all with his soulful voice - one particular resident enjoyed it so much that he insisted Sam sing a duet of "Singing in the Rain" before leaving.

We met some interesting characters and were fascinated by stories of the lives they lead - one elderly gentleman shared his experiences as a saxophone players, another shared the story of tragically losing two of his sons who were famous motorcycle racers.

We often forget the value and the impact that the elderly had on society, our visit to the home was to show our gratitude, by lending an ear, sharing a song and providing friendship.

In the Mother City our team joined On the Dot Sacks Circle for the Matla a Bana Project.

Matla a Bana is a national NGO which cares for abused children and the South African Police.

The sad reality is that 530 children are raped daily in South Africa, which represents 45% of all rape cases.

Our team contribrbuted by packing hundreds of the 5000 snack packs donated by the Media 24 group to young rape victims.

The experience left a good feeling in their hearts and brought a few things in perspective again - to not to take everything for granted.

It was also an Opportunity for them to get to know their fellow On the Dotters.

Maidiba's 67 minutes was a heartwarming and rewarding experience for all involved at On the Dot.

It was an experience in which we gained just as much if not more than those we helped.
