Egg Films' rising star Verushka Vogt directed Cash Converters' first ever television commercial, Lobola, which launched last week.

Conceptualised by Volcano Advertising's team of Glenn Jeffery, Francois Boshoff, Lucky du Plessis and Tarryn Bezuidenhout to introduce Cash Converters' new Payday Advance division, the proudly South African love story follows a mixed-race city couple (Binnelanders' Carl Beukes and Home Affairs' Lerato Moloisane) on a road trip to meet her rural parents so he can pop the question.

The ad showcases Verushka's passion for performance, so the casting was essential. "The chemistry was really important," says Verushka, "especially with a mixed race couple. It was Lerato's first ad, but she walked into the casting studio and went straight in for a kiss with Carl - instant fireworks!"

With Willie Saayman editing at Left Post Production, the final ingredient was InJozi's quirky soundtrack. "They tinkered something out overnight, but we loved the funny lines and the way it felt upbeat and playful. It completed the balance."
