Speaker profile: Kelsey Wiens

Kelsey spends her time looking for opportunities to make things open. She works with organisations to establish effective open policies and advocates for OpenTextbooks. In her spare time, she's the chief curator for The Podcast Club - an online community that sources and shares great podcasts.

Tell us more about Creative Commons?

Wiens: Creative Common provides a standard way for creators to grant someone else permission to use their work. Find out more about Creative Commons here.

Will this be your first TEDx presentation, how are feeling about it?

Wiens: It's really exciting and it's a great opportunity to really think clearly and deeply about your topic - but it's nerve-wrecking. Someone told me that the size of TEDxCapeTown audience is the same size of Global TED!

What are you looking forward to the most?

Wiens: The other speakers. I'm thrilled to be following Adriana - listening to her talk about why she wants to go to Mars almost makes me want to join her - almost

What is your interpretation of the theme: Open Access Control?

Wiens: My work revolves around these terms. Openness being at the centre of everything. We need to talk about equal access and not just access. I've been thinking a lot recently about why people trust their ideas and research to Openness Access - other than a moral reason. I think what it comes down to is trusting the world with their idea.
