School of Hard Knocks-
Having been employed by 8seconds for a brief period, and getting to work under the notorious Mr Barnard, I will be surprised if this is not another one of his hair brained attempts to launder money into the UK. 8seconds has a vast untapped creative and marketing staff compliment, but unless Mr Barnard allows these individuals to flourish, and not dictate like Mr Mugabe he will only end up with a herd of sheep. Mr Barnard needs to leave the creative to the creative's and the client service to themselves. He could learn a few things from Mandla on how to allow your company to focus it's energy in the right direction. Laine Barnard has and always will be a eye sore to the advertising/design industry, I just sometimes feel sorry for those trapped in his confusion and strange view on reality. (Sniff, Sniff) If my hunch is correct and he is getting his money into the UK, the saying must be true, the rats always leaves the sinking ship first. 8seconds shareholders, need to review his position and employment before they need to learn to swim.

The salad dresser...-
No, but half-seriously, half of London's SA expats and half the fruit they sell is from here. Half of what we do here is done with the other eye on what happens in the US and UK. It could be semi-significant were it not that more than half of Safricans scoff pap and wors and uh.. don't give a toss. Damn.

to the power of 8.-
dear dazed, serious, doos, lost and peppy, Whilst you hide behind sorry pseudonyms and barely disguised insults, badmouthing a company that is attempting to rise above it's competition by breaking into a market where many others have failed, 8seconds with Laine Barnard at the helm, is acquiring new business abroad! Granted, it hasn't always been plain sailing, but success never presents itself without a certain amount of hard work and sacrifice by everyone involved. I for one, am extremely proud and honored to be a part of this company, and I will defend it and my companions tooth and nail. Clearly, sacrifice and hard work is not one of your priorities. But before we deteriorate into throwing insults back & forth like juvenile simpletons, I beg of you: if you have personal issues with Mr. Barnard, take it up with him face to face, do not put this company into a bad light because of our inability to confront your issues - nobody here deserves your offensive and abusive tone. Unless you can't/won't do that, keep your insults to yourself. T.

Over the hill-
Tharina well done on your honest and open opinion of the 8seconds/Laine Barnard comments on the article. You may be hypnotised by his apparent brilliance, but when you one day leave 8seconds and venture out into the world, (and not return later after getting a bigger pay cheque). You will come to notice how a bad reputation not only follows a company but also it's employees. 8seconds has no credibility in the industry and has a reputation for underhanded and manipulative ways of doing business. (Just look at all the issues around JOSCO). As for not wanting to work hard - Working hard does not mean you work smart. I worked hard at 8seconds, but we did not work smart. And I am quite sure it has not changed. Glad to be free DrPepper
