#OnTheBigScreen: The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard

One film enters the South African box office this weekend: The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard.

The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard

The world’s most lethal odd couple – bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L Jackson) – are back on another life-threatening mission. Still unlicensed and under scrutiny, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’s even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek).

As Bryce is driven over the edge by his two most dangerous protectees, the trio gets in over their heads in a global plot and soon find that they are all that stands between Europe and chaos. Joining in the fun and deadly mayhem are Antonio Banderas as a vengeful and powerful madman and Morgan Freeman as… well, you’ll have to see.

“It’s bigger explosions, it’s more wacky, the comedy’s just off the chain,” says director Patrick Hughes.

For Hughes, the shadow of what would become The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard started stirring during the edit of its predecessor, The Hitman’s Bodyguard. And the box office success of that film further convinced him, and Millennium Media, that a sequel was a possibility. “I couldn’t help but wonder what happened to Michael Bryce after that road trip with Kincaid – it felt to me that he’d certainly be in therapy. And Kincaid felt like this overbearing, disapproving father figure throughout that film – and Bryce has massive and deep-rooted validation issues – so there was a real potential to explore the family dynamic.”

Millennium Media president, Jeffrey Greenstein, comments: “After seeing the outpouring of love for the characters and fun of the first film, we couldn’t live without Michael Bryce, Darius and Sonia Kincaid. Make sure you honour the seatbelt rule and buckle up for another fun ride. This movie is only as much fun as the incredible on-screen chemistry of the returning cast, with the bonus of Morgan Freeman, Antonio Banderas and Frank Grillo that bring us this entertaining ride that is sure to please audiences worldwide.”
