The 3,150 sqm building houses 230 KFC and Pizza Hut employees, and boasts a modern architectural design and fresh interior features.

Environmental sustainability

The office enjoys environmentally sustainable elements such as a low – e/high performance glass (Eclipse Advantage Grey) glazing which is designed to reject solar heat and improve indoor thermal comfort, while the choice of design and materials – concrete and steel with lower embodied energy – minimise the impact on the environment.

The building also has a condenser that chills refrigerant, which is distributed throughout the building, to provide both heating and cooling. Sensors detect temperature in each office zone and signal the system to regulate comfort levels.

Low flow fittings were installed to assist in the reduction of water demand in the building. And in a move to reduce the overall energy consumption in the building, new generation LED lamps have been installed to provide energy efficient and colour sensitive lighting. Lights are zoned to switch off automatically when an area is unoccupied.

Employee wellbeing and productivity

According to Yum Brands, the office has been designed to maximise people comfort to ensure that staff members work in an inspiring work environment that boosts productivity. Attention was therefore placed on providing good fresh air levels and outdoor spaces which are vital for brain function and to reduce airborne germs and pollutants.

Other notable features and facilities include a car wash, a mothers’ room, a prayer room, a sick bay, a Hope café with a barista station where funds generated from staff and visitors go towards sustaining some of KFC’s Add Hope beneficiaries as well as the Pizza Hut Africa literacy project. Staff looking for some rest and relaxation can walk down to the wellness room where they can have various treatments done including manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing and massages.

“Change is good – and we are excited to have moved into such an ultra-modern building – one that takes the environment, and of course, our people into account,” says Thabisa Mkhwanazi, Public Affairs Director at KFC Africa. “At KFC we value our staff and always strive to create an environment where everybody can be their best self."
