New acting CEO at ICC Durban

With three major events scheduled for the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban in 2011, board chairperson Mato Madlala board has appointed Julie-May Ellingson as the acting CEO, effective 1 April 2011. The current acting CEO, Jeremy Hurter, has reverted to his position of CFO, as his expertise is needed full-time in that department.

Ellingson's wealth of experience, acumen in governance, business and development matters, her recent assistance to the ICCD in some of its upgrade work and her understanding of the key challenges facing the board makes her a suitable candidate to take the ICCD through this period, featuring Indaba 2011, the IOC's 123rd session and COP17 at the end of the year.

She brings strategic and operational skills to the ICCD, which are critical as it strives to contribute to national economic growth by ensuring that it delivers against its strategic goals.

Given that Ellingson is currently involved in a number of other initiatives within the city, among which is the coordination of the city's involvement in these three major conferences, she will continue as head: strategic projects. The board will undertake a quarterly review and report back to the city manager on the longer-term process.

The board of directors wishes to thank Hurter for his unwavering commitment during his term as an acting CEO.
