Journalist Francisco Mendes awarded 2014 Maboque Prize

LUANDA: The Angolan journalist Francisco Mendes was awarded the 2014 Maboque Journalism Award on Saturday in Luanda.

With the award, Freancisco Mendes who is also Information director of the privately-owned Zimbo TV station, received Akz 10 million (Usd 100,000).

The jury presided over by Justino Pinto de Andrade assisted by Amélia da Lomba, Africano Neto, Albino Carlos, Ana Lúcia, Agnela Barros, Ana Margoso and Nelson Ventura, explained that among the criteria, the journalist was awarded the prize for the way he leads his Zimbo TV's "Debate Livre" programme.

In the Reporting category, the prize went to Zimbo TV's "Repórter Zimbo", who got Akz 3.1 million, while in the "Presenter" the recognition went to "Radio Mais" journalist Jorge Gomes, who received Akz 2.4 million.

Armindo Laureano won Akz 3.1 million in the "Interview" category with his "Vivências na Radio" programme.

This was the 23rd edition of the Maboque Journalism Award that gave State-run Radio Nacional de Angola broadcasting station's journalist Alves António Akz 3.1 million as a honour.

The Maboque Journalism Award is offered every year by the business group "Grupo César & Filhos", to stimulate the journalistic work, by rewarding quality, creativity and timeliness of Angolan media professionals'.
