eLearning Africa kicks off

Over 1,200 participants have arrived, to engage in debate and discussion with more than 300 speakers. Practically all of Africa is represented: but this year it is the Southern African states that are most prominent. The conference got to a start with workshops, a ministerial round table, and an opening plenary with the Prime Minister of Namibia, Dr Hage Geingob.

Amongst the internationally renowned keynote speakers are many Southern African heavyweights from academic, governmental and commercial spheres: including members of the Namibian government, Dr Maggy Beukes-Amiss of UNAM, Botswanian writer and library director Bobana Badisang, and South African academics Prof. Dr Johannes Cronje, Dr Adele Botha and Prof. Kwesi Kwaa Prah.

The conference is showcasing Southern African advances in eLearning and technology before a pan-African audience. Namibian MOOCs, tablet-enabled teaching and mobile eAgriculture are all on the packed agenda. In a session entitled "Integrating ICTs in the teaching-learning process: Outstanding Innovations in Namibia", the Namibian government will honour the work of primary and secondary school teachers who have reached the final of a friendly competition.

The conference is set to run until Friday, 31 of May and with so many speakers drawn from Southern Africa, it is certain that the technological insights and cultures of the region will make a huge impression on the rest of the Continent.
