Sudan internet back up

According to the internet monitoring and research firm, it was the largest national internet blackout since Egypt went offline in 2011.

PC World states that, according to the Washington Post, the country cutting itself off from the internet was reportedly due to riots in the capital city of Khartoum after the International Monetary Fund "urged Sudan to cut fuel subsidies when the country lost its main oil-producing territory after South Sudan became an independent state in 2011".

One has to wonder, if indeed it was caused by the Sudanese government, what they have achieved in 24 hours through this blackout. Did they blanket the news long enough to stop it from spreading? That's very unlikely to be the case... Was this 24 hours enough to get all their ducks in a row to handle any protests?
