Photography challenge captures the art in wine
"Liquid through the Lens, the Spier photography challenge, is a celebration of the art in wine as an expression of intrinsic worth," says Spier brand manager Mélanie Bekker. "The art in wine lies in the liquid itself, not the bottle or label."
The sole instruction was that the liquid be the source of the art.
Seasoned photographer Richard Dobson, author of Karoo Moons: a Photographic Journey was amongst the first recruits to the photographic team. Dobson's approach was to see the wine as a "living thing". His work is an abstract portrayal of the world through a glass of wine.
Isaac Mofokeng took the approach of freeze-framing the wine in motion. His visually arresting work is as engaging as Mofokeng himself, who taught himself to photograph with a borrowed camera and a business plan to sell his photos to neighbours and friends.
Luke Metelerkamp and Freddie le Roux are the student contingent of the team.
Both responded to a challenge issued to colleges and schools.
Adel Ferreira, an apprentice, is the fifth and final photographer. Ferreira is a recent graduate of Tshwane University who feels she is "only starting to learn" under the mentorship of David Prior.
