Living le good life at Langebaan Country Estate

Out on the R27, mountains get replaced with sand dunes and flat, stretched out spaces, but that doesn't mean it's any less beautiful. In fact, I found that the West Coast allows me to breathe a bit.

One of my favourite spots on the West Coast is without a doubt Langebaan. Good food, good people, and chilled, low-key living. I recently headed there with the family for a weekend of relaxed bliss at Langebaan Country Estate, and no, you don’t have to be a golfer to check in at this serene spot.

We stayed in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom self-catering Golf Suite which was only about 900m from the clubhouse and a mere 15m from the tranquil Zest Spa. The Golf Suite units sleep up to four people and come with a flat-screen TV, DVD/CD player, dining table for four, a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, large fridge, and microwave. There's even a washing machine and tumble dryer, which means longer stays are easy and comfortable.

We especially enjoyed the balcony with its built-in braai, but for those keen for a treat, there's also the Horizon Restaurant and Blaze Bar - both situated at the clubhouse.

Saturday afternoon I enjoyed an estate tour with the Langebaan Country Estate team – driving all over the place in a golf cart, taking in the beautiful views, I was surprised to learn that the eco-estate's environmental policies were introduced 15 years ago already! Quite advanced for its time, if you ask me.

The property is absolutely exquisite and offers something for everyone: golfing, clubhouses, accommodation, conferencing, running routes, tennis, bowling, a football pitch, mashie golf, swimming pools and more.

On the expansion front, the estate has big plans in the pipeline – it will be launching a retirement village on the grounds in the near future.

    Golf

In September this year, the estate launched its new driving range clubhouse, The Range. There are three tiers of grass bays for up to 60 golfers hitting out to the 270m long-grass range. This new facility was created to complement the 18-Hole Gary Player Design’s Black Knight golf course. Even though it was built and fitted for golfers, it can also be used for team buildings, conferences, and functions.

There are also two indoor bays for coaching and fitting using Flightscope, which allows one to scientifically evaluate swing technique and provide a fuller teaching experience, and, if it starts raining, they simply close the doors and continue inside.

    Conferencing

The eco-estate also offers conference facilities. Guests have a choice of two venues, seating up to 30 and 100 people, respectively. Both conference rooms are fully equipped with a projector, pull-down screen, white boards, flip charts and all other services required to host a great conference.

    Relax

Sunday morning, we just couldn’t resist an early morning massage at the Zest spa, just a stone’s throw away from our suite. The service was top-notch and the treatment pure bliss.
