2020 South African Small Business Awards winners

As we wrap up 2020 and look towards 2021, the time has never been more perfect to honour entrepreneurs and leaders in the small business sector. The National Small Business Chamber (NSBC) hosted the 2020 South African Small Business Awards to announce the 2020 Champions in various categories.

These prestigious awards have gathered a diverse range of entries all with one thing in common - a driving entrepreneurial force. Most of the working world never realise success, in fact only 5% are successful and 1% are super successful.

Leanne Rhodes, head of creative and social media at The National Small Business Chamber (NSBC), welcomes guests saying "Today is all about recognising the tireless journey, hard work, outstanding achievements and vision of small businesses and entrepreneurial success"

Mike Anderson, CEO and founder of NSBC says it has been tough out there, probably more this year than any other year.

"We hear a lot of doom and gloom out there but in fact, it's not all that doom and gloom. The sector is positive. The sector is resilient. Yes, there's been casualties in hospitality and tourism, but when the pandemic arrived into the world, we had to adapt at the NSBC. We took a stance that we will be positive, and that we will drive had and that we will adapt"

This year has been more about challenging the status quo. Adapting, doing different things, swimming upstream and those SMEs who have come out strongest have done this.

"Two-thirds of our working population work at a small business. Small business is the backbone of our economy. It's the engine of our society. So whether we're a consumer, or a small business or a big business, we have to make it a priority to rally behind small businesses. We must collectively mobilise the nation to go big by supporting the small. In that way, our local small businesses will build infrastructure, employ more from the local communities. That's really true nation building!" says Anderson.

The Top 20 all receive a Top 20 Winner Award and were all automatic finalists for the Main Category and Special Awards.

Anderson says “the categories are selected with strategic intent, paying homage to sectors within the business landscape that potentially present greater stumbling blocks to success.”
