Pick n Pay voted world's best retailer

The American-based NRF made the announcement at their annual convention and expo in New York and NRF President and CEO, Tracy Mullin, presented the award to CEO Nick Badminton during an international retail industry function in New York today, 13 January 2009.

The highly coveted international award is given to a retail firm that has achieved an international reputation for excellence and distinguished service to the retail industry.

Unlike many other awards, this one involves selection by global industry leaders.

The NRF is the world's largest retail trade association, with a membership base that includes retailers and suppliers from a range of stores including specialty, discount, catalogue, internet, independents, chains, chemist and food stores.

The association represents more than 100 state, national and international retail organisations.

In the USA alone, the industry accounts for more than 1.6-million US retail outlets, over 24-million employees, and in 2007, their sales amounted to $4.5-trillion.
