Grey sets up tsunami relief fund

Grey Worldwide has turned its attention to the relief effort for the South Asian tsunami victims, spurred on by an announcement by Ed Meyer, New York-based chairman of Grey Global, that the group has donated US$100 000 to the relief effort. It will contribute the money through its local offices in the region to ensure the funds are distributed where most needed.

Grey Worldwide's South African office has followed suit by opening a Grey Tsunami bank account whereby all staff can contribute to the cause. Grey will then match all staff contributions, which will be sent to the Red Cross via the Welcome Msomi Gateway/SABC relief action programme.

"We have all been shaken enormously by the extent of the devastation of the tsunami in South Asia. On a daily basis we take for granted the comforts that surround us: food, shelter and clothing, and the inhabitants of the affected areas may only have some, or none of these right now," says Ann Nurock, CEO of Grey Worldwide South Africa.
