John the Legend

The John Legend concert, held at Cape Town's Grand West Casino last night, 15 October 2009 was definitely one for the books. His opening act, Keri Hilson, was not too bad either, in her gold-and-black get-up (wonder if she bought it at Cavendish?). But the aptly named John Legend really was the star. His Ordinary People, Save Room and, my personal favourite, Everybody Knows rocked the proverbial house. His backdrop was awesome, or I should say legendary.
John the Legend

Ushers and Backstreet Boys can sing, but you mainly notice them for their “pretty” looks, but I was totally blown away by John Legend. I'm honestly a James Brown fan, and anything from the Motown and old-school funk era, but now I see how R&B and soul music has evolved into John Legend!

On the technical side, the lighting was brilliant. They had huge lights that reflected over the crowd, which kind of made us feel like we're in the spotlight too - unless that was just me. Whichever the company was that put everything together, well done! The only hiccough of the night was the 15-minute wait between Keri Hilson's and JL's set. But I forgave them because the moment we walked into the VIP area we were greeted by one of Cape Town's well-known Heart FM crew: Clarence, Nick and Julian. Plus there was the free sushi and oysters.

All in all, it was one awesome concert. It could perhaps have been on a larger scale, but I don't think anyone can complain.
