Zachary's wins top awards

Zachary's Restaurant at Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa, Knysna, received a Diamond Award and a joint award for the best wine list countrywide from the 2010 Diners Club Winelist Awards, earlier this week in Cape Town.

This is the third year running that Zachary's has won a Diamond Award for its wine list, but the first time it has received the top accolade for "Best Restaurant Wine List". This year, the restaurant also won an Award of Excellence in recognition of an outstanding wine list from the American publication Wine Spectator, for the fourth year in a row.

Zachary's wine list consists of over 550 different wines, which are stored in the wine cellar adjacent to the restaurant's private dining room. All of the wines were carefully selected by F&B manager and wine director Werner Wentzel, chef sommelier Ricardo Roux, and executive chef Geoffrey Murray, and include both imported and local wines.

Years spent selecting

Wentzel said that he and his team were "over the moon" with the awards. "We have spent years selecting the best wines available locally and some top international wines. However, our list is very focussed on local wines and many of the South African wines on the list have been selected from the cellars of the finest garagiste wine producers."
