Whilst in Cape Town, he will complete a project called "72 Hours in Cape Town" in which he will relate his experiences to his global following on Facebook and Twitter. Having done similar projects in Denmark, he has just completed "72 Hours in Jordan," where he travelled through the desert by hot air balloon, visited ancient sites and floated on the Dead Sea.

The two-day online tourism conference and travel technology exhibition is aimed at developing online tourism with a focus on e-marketing, travel distribution and sales, social networking and new media. Other guest speakers will include representatives from international travel giants Trip Advisor, Expedia and WAYN.com.

CT's first landscape and cityscape in 3D

Cape Town Tourism and South African Tourism are also hosting the first filming of the Cape Town landscape and cityscape in 3D, which will be used at local and international media and trade platforms showcasing Cape Town in the future.

Damian Cook, CEO of E Tourism Frontiers, conference organisers, said that online marketing has now moved beyond just having a website, to using the internet to help convert online interactions into sales. "Companies must have conversations with their customers and encourage consumers to recommend, post comments, photos and videos about their tourism experiences. The power of Facebook, Twitter and Trip Advisor to influence consumers looking for travel options is enormous -- it used to be word of mouth that led the way - this is now changing to word of mouse."
